It was a great week for the Davisons. Kyra won a contract for a championship opportunity of her choice, Ken won his match to advance in the United States Championship Tournament, and Adina didn’t give either of her parents a hard time about school… which leads us to this moment. Ken, Kyra and Adina are all sitting around the kitchen table with a laptop in front of them.
“Ohhhhhh ‘PIG TOWN’!!!” Adina squeals. “That sounds fun, I wanna go there!”
Ken and Kyra both quietly side-eye the child.
“We already looked into that one. While casual Fridays are a nice touch, It doesn’t really help us here”
Ken motions to Kyra to get Adina out of the room for a bit, hiding his hands behind his screen so the child can’t see them.
“Hey, baby girl - would you mind checking on Alexis real quick?” Kyra asks, leaning in and patting Adina on the shoulder. “Quietly…”
“Mommy I’m the quietest person in this house,” Adina reassures her mother and then proceeds to stomp out of the room and up the stairs while Kyra closes her eyes and shakes her head.
“Do you know if any of these schools even run on a Monday through Thursday schedule? The websites don’t tell me anything.” Ken sighs and leans back from the computer, glancing over at Kyra. “I know charter schools in other states that do that and it would be the perfect solution to the Adina problem.”
“Let’s just move there and save ourselves the headache.”
Ken’s eyes widened. “Excuse you?”
Kyra chuckles. “I’m kidding. But in all seriousness, I don’t think any schools around here do what you’re hoping for. At least with that private school we’ve got her in, maybe we can work with her teachers to accommodate our schedule.”
“I'm sure a sizable donation to her school would help our cause. The only other option would be homeschooling.”
Kyra nods her head. “We can definitely make sure the school is taken care of. Not just because we need them to work with us but because our kid is a hellion.”
Ken ponders that for a moment. “Now the real question is.. Do we have enough money to cover that?”
Kyra smirks and shrugs her shoulders.
“So, homeschooling it is. Got it.”
The two share a good laugh as Adina walks back into the kitchen.
“Alexi is fine.”
Kyra’s eyebrows raise. “You know there is a letter ‘S’ at the end of her name. Right?”
“Yeah. I just like Alexi better.” Adina shrugs and retakes her seat between her parents. “So whaddaya talking about without me?”
“How you’re too expensive to keep around.” Kyra jokes, ticking at Adina’s sides until the little girl lets out a squeal that would wake up the neighbors, let alone the sleeping babe upstairs. “No, but really.. I’d really like you to stay in the school you’re at, baby girl.”
“Awwww…” Adina groans and immediately begins kicking the counter in front of her with that ‘sad I'm not getting what I want’ energy, but Ken stops her.
“You’re not letting us finish.”
Kyra nods her head. “Homeschooling is always an option if it doesn’t work out, but I wanna talk to your teachers first and see if we can keep you every other Friday and have them send your work home so you can do it while we’re on the road.”
“That way,” Ken chimes in. “You can come with us.”
“REALLY?!”
“But you’ve gotta show us you can handle it, Adina. I mean it. No more throwing chairs at other kids, and frankly I’d love to stop getting calls about your behavior altogether.”
“But mommy, that kid deserved it.”
“A lot of people might deserve it but that doesn’t mean you do it. I mean, I deserved it when your mom kicked me in the…”
“KEN!”
Ken feels the glare his wife is giving him, so he decides it’s best to keep his head down like a scolded dog. He glances up just in time to see Kyra turn away. He can see her shoulders bouncing up and down and he’s got to shake his head in order to keep himself from chuckling.
“I guess that settles it. I’ll make the phone call Monday morning. Oh, and you better keepo your grades up.”
Adina nods then wonders off to God knows where, leaving Ken and Kyra to enjoy the temporary peace.
A phone call, a few meetings, a very generous check and surprisingly enough, the school had no problem accommodating Adina’s scheduling. They were all too happy to be free of her every other Friday.
“I couldn’t believe they even offered to tutor her on zoom if need be.” Ken states as the trio make their way down the hallway backstage at the arena.
“Couldn’t have been that money we threw at them.” Kyra muses as she watches Adina with a smile.
The little girl was in her element, there were so many things to see and it was obvious the hellion was having a hard time keeping her hands to herself.
“This is so much better than school…” Adina said quietly, as they rounded a corner to see a few more crew members shuffling around - getting things ready. But before her parents have the chance to take notice, Adina hones in on one person amid the crowd in particular and she runs off down the hall.
“Holy shit she’s making a break for it!” Kyra half shouts as she takes off, chasing after her runaway child.
Meanwhile, Ken takes an extra few seconds to process before he follows his two ladies down the hall where they all come to a stop in front of a large, brick wall of a man. Adina lets out a squeal and practically knocks the big man down - which is saying a lot when you look at their size difference.
“Uncle MACKY!”
“Traveling a little light?” Mac inquires as he kneels down to Adina’s level and glances up as Kyra and Ken catch up.
“Bro, we haven’t even won our titles yet!”
“He’s talkin’ about Alexi, you worm breath!” Adina yells before turning to Mac and matter-of-factly stating “Alexi is home with Chloe.”
“I didn’t realize that you still had Chloe at home. Dorian would be real proud of the way you’ve taken care of his kid.”
“Yeah, well,” Ken says while awkwardly running his hand through his nonexistent hair. He’s not used to getting praised. “It was the right thing to do.”
“She’s a part of the family. She’s stuck with us now,” Kyra motions towards Adina. “However, we’re selling this one if you’re interested.”
Adina stuck her tongue out at her mother before turning back towards her uncle and turning the charm up to eleven. “Mommy says I’m too expensive to keep around…”
Mac chuckles. “Does she now?”
“Uh huh.”
Adina gives uncle Mac the puppy dog eyes while Kyra scoffs.
“Don’t let that sweet face fool you.”
Ken shakes his head. “The kid could probably give us all a few pointers.”
“Speaking of,” Mac stands back up, with Adina now firmly planted at his side. “You two ready? I know Kyra’s got a decision ahead of her..”
The cowboy’s voice trails off as he turns his attention towards Kyra, who simply shrugs her shoulders.
“Tonight, she's pinning me.” Ken barely gets it all out before Kyra's elbow lands firmly in his side. He winces in spite of himself.
“Decisions been made. But ain’t none of you finding out til later.”
“As for being ready?” Ken and Kyra glance at one another before looking back at Mac. “Oh, we’re ready. But.. would you mind keeping an eye on the kiddo so we can… let our opponents know?”
“We didn’t set aside any time for shit talking is what he’s trying to say.” Kyra chimes in while Ken gives her a look.
“Yeah, that.”
Mac nods his head again and wraps an arm around Adina’s shoulders. “I’m sure we can manage for a lil' while, what do you say?”
Adina begins hopping up and down. “Yay! Come on Uncle Macky, we gotta talk! I got sooo much to tell you!”
Before anyone else can say another word, Adina drags Mac Bane off by the hand in the opposite direction. Once they're out of view, Ken grabs Kyra’s hand. “Shall we, my dear?”
It’s 6 PM, Venice Beach is vibrant and lively as the golden hour light bathes the area in a warm glow. The iconic beachfront is buzzing with activity. People are strolling along the boardwalk, street performers entertain passersby, and artists showcase their work. The sound of crashing waves mixes with the chatter of visitors, cyclists, and skateboarders gliding past.
The Pacific Ocean reflects the soft hues of pink, orange, and purple as the sun begins to set, creating a breathtaking view. Surfers ride the last waves of the day while fitness enthusiasts wrap up their workouts at Muscle Beach. Despite the bustling atmosphere, the beach retains a laid-back, carefree vibe as locals and tourists alike take in the final moments of daylight. Among them are the Davisons. Both are working on getting just the right camera angle to get the beautiful sunset yet minimize the glare. The realization that this is the first time that Ken and Kyra have cut a promo together in almost two years sets in for Ken. He takes his wife’s hands and takes a giant breath.
“Sorry, I just need a minute. Knowing it’s been FOREVER since we’ve done this is just getting me all in the feels.”
“That was a very Adina-like ‘forever’ you know.”
“Yeah. Kiddo’s rubbing off on me. You ready?”
Kyra looks into Ken’s eyes and nods. Ken lets go and they both turn to the camera.
“It's about time. It's about Kendamned time. Baltimore Elite is back together again. I thought this day would never come. I thought my days in the ring were over. Even though everyone saw two weeks ago what the ‘Jawdropper’ and I can do individually, you have no idea what we can do together. In just two short years we became one of the most decorated tag teams in this industry. We have won rumbles. We have won tournaments. Most importantly, we have won championships. The only reason that we are not known as the absolute best tag team in this industry is that we decided to start a family. Now, we are back. We are back to support the family that we've created and we will do so by any means necessary.”
“Hi again.” Kyra winks and waves. “It was only a matter of time before all of you, my fans, got to know firsthand what the Ken/Kyra experience is like. Lucky for you, you didn’t have to wait long. But don’t you worry. We’re not resting on the things we accomplished years ago. That’s old news, and honestly? It makes this moment even more fun. Laying our claim, making a statement and most importantly.. Putting the rest of you fuckers on notice. We may be dangerous in our own special ways.. But just imagine what’s gonna happen when you put the two of us together.”
Ken rolls his eyes.
“Your fans. Sure. We'll go with that.”
Kyra snickers and looks up at Ken sweetly. “You married me, my love. Besides, what’s mine is yours and what’s yours is mine, right? But anyway, as you were saying, dear…”
“...Anyway, Karly Ward, last week you got lucky when I got pulled from the match.”
“So lucky.” Kyra chimes in with a shit-eating grin on her lips. “You not being there at least gave her a fighting chance at moving on in that tournament, which she didn’t - but that’s neither here nor there. I’m betting our sweet, sweet Karly is ready to get back on the horse this week… Or I suppose I should call him Carl, shouldn’t I? Either way, I’m sure our girl wants nothing more than to show everyone that losing to Just Cause was just a ‘fluke’, am I right?”
“You’re completely right. Call it what you want. The fact of the matter is that Just Cause is going to have to face the very same bullet that you are about to face. You are staring down the barrel. It doesn’t matter to me that you have Carl Matthews in your corner. The result is going to be the same. When I went on X to tell Just Cause that he was running into bigger ammunition? I honestly didn’t expect that I would get the chance to show him. I am going to use you to send Just Cause a very simple message. Anything he can do, I can do better. Furthermore, anything I can do we can do better.”
“I just love it when he goes all ‘wrestler’ on me..” Kyra says, fanning herself. “But he’s right. I don’t quite know what ya’lls deal is.. But I’m guessing ‘Simp Karly’s lap dog’ isn’t just a nickname, is it? Sounds more like a mantra or some shit. Either way, I don’t wanna know because the way I see it - if Karly wants to use her lap dog as a meat shield, they’re both gonna meet the same fate, regardless. I’m sure good old Carl would take a bullet for you, huh, Karly? Maybe he can block one of us… but he sure as hell can’t stop both of us from getting what we want.”
“I understand with this being a new company we're supposed to have some sort of feeling out process. That's not how we operate. We know who we are. Some people know what they bring to the table but we are the fucking table. The last company that we were in we were there for well over a year before we took our first loss and I will be damned if I allow a couple wrestlers as skilled as you are, and I use that term very loosely, to put a blemish on our record. In two years we have only suffered two losses. We came here because we wanted to be the measuring stick that every other team in this company is compared to. If the two of you want to make your names, I welcome you to try. We've done more in one week then you will probably do in your entire careers. Last show I beat a wrestler that was larger than the two of you combined. The last time you saw this bad ass bitch I call my wife was on your screen, the only reason she wasn't crowned champion is because she just happened to grab the wrong briefcase. That contract of hers is going to rectify that.”
“Speaking of... I can’t wait to let everyone in on who’s about to be counting down the days until I take their belt from them. But first we get to take care of Karly and her good boy.” A thoughtful look crosses Kyra’s face. “Should we grab some treats on the way back or…”
“Yeah, we can do that. We’ll just edit that part about treats out later.”
Ken walks over and shuts the recording off. He never edited that part out.
“Do we want to grab some ice cream or something vaguely healthy since we’ve got to put some work in tonight?”
“Might as well save the ice cream for when the kid is with us or you know what’ll happen. Oh..How about a taco?”
“Sounds good,” Ken says as he shoves his phone back in his pocket and grabs the tripod it was sitting on to record. He takes his free hand and places it in Kyra’s. “Let’s go.”
“Okay, Uncle Macky.. Now listen up real good.”
“I’m listening.”
Ken and Kyra are standing just outside the doorway to Mac’s locker room, both of them smirking as they listen to Adina giving her uncle ‘just a few’ pointers.
“You gotta slam their toes with a chair, like REALLY smash 'em!”
“Mmmhm…” Mac’s voice sounds thoughtful. It sounds like the big guy is taking notes. “They’ll never see that one coming. What else you got?”
“Oh, um… And their knuckles!”
“Slamming them with a chair too?”
“Uh-huh! Write that down! And then you gotta make sure to throw your chair at em! That’s what I did to that yucky boy at school and he had to go home.”
“Really now? Maybe you shouldn’t have done th–”
“I HAD to, Uncle Macky. I–”
Ken and Kyra take that as their cue to reappear in the doorway, both of them with their arms crossed over their chests. Adina doesn’t bat an eyelash.
“He deserved it!”
“Mmhm.” Kyra replies, motioning for Adina to come on. “I hope she gave you some good notes, Mac. Thank you for keeping an eye on her.”
“Thank you, brother. Enjoy the show tonight.”
Mac rises to his feet. “My pleasure, and if she wants to come back during your match, my door is open.”
The Davisons take Adina and start heading back to their locker room. It's time to go to work.
